Playmobil just released a new series called Dino Rise! A total of six dinosaurs armed with weapons and armor, alongside a neat animated series on YouTube.

This Playmobil set 70624, introduces the character Ian, the T-Rex Dinosaur fully armored and weaponized, alongside a giant Robotic Mech Suit! Hence why it was titled: “Battle of the Giants”. Plus a tiny Dino with two projectile launchers.

On this Playmobil set 70625, you get Samu and Ayla, with the Dinosaur Spinosaur. Officially titled “Double Defense Power”; I mean, just look at those rocket launchers!

This Playmobil set number 70626 features the character Milow and the Dinosaur Saichania. This set was officially titled: “Invasion of the Robot”, why? Well, because it also includes a magnificent looking Mech Suit Robot!

On this Playmobil set 70627 you get Jaden riding a Triceratops. This set was officially titled: “Battle for the Legendary Stones”, includes a rock cage and a cool net launcher that actually works!

On Playmobil set 70628 we get a neat flying Drone with the character Kaidan and his Dinosaur Pteranodon carrying a net to catch enemy units. This set was titled: “Drone Strike”.

And last but not least, for Playmobil set 70629 we get a Dinosaur Deinonychus with two rocket launchers on his back, plus Uncle Rob, with his tools, as titled: “Ready for Battle!”

This is the Waterdrop House, with a Fairy and her spirit animal (an owl). The house was built of a waterdrop. Not much space but yet as cozy as it can be! This is playmobil set 70804.

And last but not least, the Crystal Fairy with her spirit animal, the Deer, as of Playmobil set 70806.

1996 Playmobil Medieval Knights

posted by Playmobil Bello - May 25, 2021

The year 1996 wasn’t much of a strong year for fans of the medieval knights sets. Playmobil only released five new boxes with this theme, but, they were all absolutely eye catching and awesome to own, probably some of the most wanted and coolest vintage sets to date.

(1996) 3887 Siege Tower

This is the coolest Siege Tower ever made by Playmobil, as shown here with set 3887. This was released just a couple years after the Medieval Castles from 1993, sets 3666 and 3667. The above shows somewhat of a different faction, the red eagles, but I believe they belong to the Castle Knights faction from set 3666, because their coat of arms uses the main colors green and yellow. (See their flag below).

(1996) 3888 Castle Defense

As mentioned above, the Castle Knights follow the colors yellow and green, which could indicate that the Eagle Knights belong to their kingdom. You can play in any way you wish, doesn’t really matter! This set 3888 is another genius design by Playmobil: An invasion Tower with ladders and ropes to break into enemy castles. Not only it comes with eight knights, but also connects to castle set 3666 or 3667.

(1997) 3889 Archer Attack

Playmobil set 3889 brings a platoon of four arrow and crossbow men, fortified with a mobile wooden wall, to barricade themselves from enemies projectiles. Fantastic display of medieval strategy with this set.

(1997) 3890 Baron

In this set we have a Baron, or heavily armored knight, Playmobil set 3890, with his loyal companion, a black dog. He seems to carry a coat of arms of a Black Eagle that doesn’t belong to any of the factions from 1993 sets.

(1997) 3891 Ox Cart Knight

I call this set the “Traveling Lady Merchant” but the official title for this Playmobil set 3891, is “The Ox Cart”. You can do a lot with it! The lady can be a traveling doctor, or just a helping girl, that can aid wounded knights by bandaging them. The set comes with a head and arm bandages for the soldiers. She is also in the trade business, with tables, a wine (or beer) keg, and a goat.

Playmoibil set 3626, the woods

Playmobil released these sets, of wooden folks and bowmen, with trees and owls, portraying maybe a medieval Robin Hood scenery, as seen with Playmobil set 3626. You get even mushrooms and bunnies with 3626.

Playmoibil set 3627, party in the woods.

In this box, you get what seems to be a party in the woods, Playmobil set 3627, with a giant beer keg (or wine) musical instruments, a lady, a priest and a few soldiers.

Playmoibil set 3628, Knights and Archers

Playmobil set 3628 adds three dogs, more wooden soldiers and a cool looking tree, plus a bird that looks like an Eagle or Falcon.

Playmoibil set 3629, Forest Hunter.

This is a forest hunter, he rides his horse and shoots animals with his bow and arrow, having the dogs chase the dying prey. Playmobil set 3629.

Playmoibil set 3631, Traveling Monk.

This is the traveling Monnk, he carries his few possessions in that blue bag, numbered Playmobil set 3631. This Monk can bring healing knowledge to the Playmobil villagers or just some insight into Philosophical meanings.

Playmobil set 3632, Bear Hunters, Dancing Bear Act.

This set is called: “Dancing Bear Act”, as of Playmobil set 3632. Seems like they are entertainers from medieval days, who trained a bear to do some tricks, including some dance moves. That is why the bear has a chain and they are dressed with musical instruments. You can always make it a bear of war, that joins the armies of playmobil to invade castles.

Playmoibil set 3633, Hobo

Playmobil set 3633 is a funny one, as this guy is often refered to as “Hobo, or Homeless Man”, and I just don’t know why, maybe because he carries a white bag and a stick? He seems well dressed for the medieval days.

1993 Playmobil Medieval Knights

Playmobil medieval knights, set 3652

Starting with the Playmobil Tournament set 3652, we have a magnificent tent for the prince and princesses to watch knights fighting for a reward – that being a golden sword, a title or the hand of a lady.

Playmobil medieval knights, set 3654

In addition, Playmobil set 3654 introduced a new knight for the tournament set, the Swam Knight, accompanied of an assistant. The Swam Knight comes with a neatly furnished tent and a rack full of weapons.

Playmobil medieval knights, set 3659

With set 3659, Playmobil released the King and Queen of the Royal (Red) Knights, among them a messenger, two Royal Guards, a little prince, a Lady and a Trumpet man – and why not a little puppy?

Playmobil medieval knights, set 3665

Playmobil set 3665 was underrated back in the 90’s, some toy companies (other countries) didn’t even release this tower, yet it is the best looking and most awesome tower ever made by Playmobil: The Red Baron’s tower!

Playmobil medieval knights, set 3666

Playmobil set 3666 remains as the coolest vintage castle ever made! So large you can sit inside of it (if you are small enough). This magnificent fortress comes full of accessories and characters. This set includes two royal castle guards, a vagabond and his son. The kid is shown training with wooden swords on the cover of the box art.

This castle is gigantic, with several rooms to play in, a throne room, dining room and even a cellar. Set 3666 also connects to set 3667 and 3888 making it the largest Playmobil castle to date.

Playmobil medieval knights, set 3667

Playmobil set 3667 is one of my personal favorite castles. Perfectly nostalgic, following basic castle construction and strategy, plus it includes five characters fully equipped with weapons of war.

Playmobil medieval knights, set 3668

There is no Tournament without training. So here is Playmobil set 3668, the training knights. You get one knight of each faction: The Castle Knight (Green), the Royal Knight (Red) and the Swam Knight (Blue), all of them ready to train using a rotating dummy. They are all allies and live in the large Playmobil castle 3666.

Playmobil medieval knights, set 3669

A mysterious purple and black knight comes into play, as of Playmobil set 3669, giving the Red Baron’s kingdom a Knight to participate in the tournaments. A fully equipped knight and two assistants, increasing the numbers of soldiers to protect the Dragon Tower.

Playmobil medieval knights, set 3674

The Prison Chariot, Playmobil set 3674, with two Royal guards to ensure the prisoners can’t escape, much less be rescued by a small army. This set has a horse and a cage to transport criminals from one castle cell to another in safety.

Playmobil set 3651 comes in a very small box, a single yet awesome character: The Lion Knight Archer! He introduces the first version of the tower shield and a cool eye patch.

Playmobil set 3317 is a neatly cool glow in the dark Ghost! Not just that, but Playmobil realized that old medieval castles are so old, they should be haunted by ghosts as well. The ghost carries an actual chain and heavy metal ball around his feet.

1998 Playmobil Add-On

The images below show the three options for Add-Ons that Playmobil released in 1998 to complement the soldiers of each castle 3665, 3666 and 3667

Playmobil medieval knights, add-on set 7664 and 7665

We have the Lion Knights Leader, set 7665 and three lion knights soldiers, set 7664. Totaling in four new knights to add to the castle set 3667.

Playmobil medieval knights, add-on set 7671 and 7672

Above we have the Golden Dragon Leader from set 7672, and three golden dragon soldiers, from set 7671 to increase the population of the Red Baron’s tower, Playmobil set 3665.

Playmobil medieval knights, add-on set 7674 and 7673

And at last, above we have the Knights Captain set 7674, with three new soldiers, set 7673, each matching one of the allied factions of the Playmobil Castle Set 3666.

Hans Beck: The Inventor of Playmobil

posted by Playmobil Bello - May 23, 2021

Hans Beck was born in Greiz, Thuringia, from the small town of Zirndorf. A giant man, not by height, but by achievement as he invented the Playmobil. The best toy ever created in the world! Playmobil is famous for being indestructible, as it is made with good quality plastic, it rarely breaks.

As taken from the Wikipedia of Hans Beck: “In 1971, Brandstätter asked Beck to develop toy figures for children. Beck spent three years developing the figures that would eventually be known as Playmobil. He said, “I looked around to see what was on the market” but found only tin soldiers that had been produced since the 1800s, which were unable to bend or move.

Hans Beck developed a new figure that measured just under three inches and could move its head, arms, legs and hands.

With the new figures, he conducted research with children. “I would put the little figures in their hands without saying anything about what they were,” Beck remarked. “They accepted them right away… They invented little scenarios for them. They never grew tired of playing with them.”

Brandstätter was not initially convinced by Beck’s idea, but allowed the inventor to continue developing the product.”

When did Playmobil first release their toys? “In 1974, the company launched Playmobil at the Nuremberg Toy Fair. Some toy wholesalers initially did not like the new toy line. Beck commented, “People didn’t realize how much you could do with them”. However, a Dutch firm subsequently agreed to buy a whole year’s production. Playmobil began to be sold worldwide in 1975.”

From the official Hans Beck Obituary; “Hans Beck, creator of the colorful plastic Playmobil toy figures that sold by the millions around the world, has died at age 79. Geobra Brandstaetter GmbH & Co., which owns the Playmobil brand, said in a statement that Beck died Jan. 30 after a long illness.

A trained cabinetmaker and passionate model builder, Beck became a pattern developer for Horst Brandstaetter, the owner of Zirndorf-based company, in 1958. Beck once said his main rule for toy designs was “no horror, no superficial violence and no short-term trends.”

1999 Playmobil Medieval Knights

posted by Playmobil Bello - May 4, 2021

The year 1999 wasn’t much of a strong year for medieval knights fans, Playmobil only released one set: 3030 Knights Castle Adventure Set.

Another awesome half castle, this time with a large gate, resembling the gate from castle 3667, with a catapult, two mounted knights, a tree with rocks and several accessories. Not to mention six new characters!

Re-launch: Double Knights Set 3123

This Playmobil double set 3123 was released in 1999, revealing the option to buy both, Siege Tower and Castle Defense sets 3887 and 3888 in one single box.

(1999) 3123 Super Set with Siege Tower and Castle Defense

Everything is the exact same from the original sets, they are just re-launched in a new larger package.

You can use this set with any playmobil set, modern houses, Victorian mansions or even take it into an adventure in the jungle.

Above you have set 70177, the blue volkswagen beetle. This car definitedly deserves this spotlight as it is the coolest car released by playmobil so far.

Playmobil 70176 Volkswagen T1 Bus

posted by Playmobil Bello - April 1, 2021

Playmobil just released a realistic model of the Volkswagen T1 Camping Bus, in the color red and filled with accessories, at least enough to get your playmobils on a road trip.

This is actually a fantastic idea from Playmobil, now entering a world of car collectors, and playmobil adults. In addition, kids can also play with theses realistic and beautiful models, as they are made for playmobils.

Above you can watch the video review of the Volkswagen bus set 70176 released in the beginning of the year 2021. This is a great van!

Above you can see the accessories from this set, the only complaint I hear from fans is the strange looking discolored plastic cover on top of the Bus. This set could have done better without it.

With Playmobil, you are taken to a world of realism and fun full of accessories and details, everything is visually impressive, it does something to your brain, visually exciting, which makes it for a fascinating toy to look and play with.

I love the feeling of excitement when opening a new set of Playmobil. From the nostalgic smell of new plastic and ink, to the building phase, experiencing the fun of seeing the final product on your hands.

It brings me back to my childhood days, where your mind had no limit to where and how you could pose all the Playmobil knights or pirates inside medieval castles, catapults, towers, carriages, ships and such.

playmobil dragon shelves collection

Today I have over 300+ sets. What can someone do with all of that? Instead of having them stocked in plastic totes, in a dark basement, I thought: Why not share it with the World and Review them?

I am not judging anyone, but I personally can’t store my Playmobils away. I think if someone spends money on a Playmobil set, it needs to be opened, built, posed and displayed on a shelf where it can be looked at and enjoyed every single day!

Why store an unopened box inside a closet? Life is very short, enjoy it to the fullest now because you never know what the future will bring. Imagine if you die tomorrow, all your playmobils would get auctioned for a cheap price, or forgotten in a basement to rot. All those boxes you cared for, destroyed and never enjoyed to the degree it could have been! Do me a favor and open them all, enjoy it while you can!
